essentials

Provisioning is always a problem when you depend on fresh food. Campbell River is the best, and most convenient provisioning stop in the area. At the other end of your probable travels, Port McNeill is a good provisioning stop. We found during our past cruises that we can live rather well on all we brought from home. More time for sailing, no need for shopping. Surely, some fresh buns or fruit are always nice.

for navigation:

for fun and food:
  • shrimp traps are usually set in 200 - 300' of water; so bring along lots of line. Crab pots can be successfully set in relatively shallow water. This makes it possible to put the pot over the side after setting the anchor for the night.
  • licence: for crabbing and shrimping you need to buy a Canadian licence (available in most marinas). I love to eat the critters, but hate to catch them. Therefore, you all got my full support ...
